Accreditations
What is the benefit of hiring an FMB accredited builder?
FMB members work to a strict code of practice which covers their relationship with customers throughout the building process.
Before work begins, your FMB builder will:
- Provide professional advice on the project.
- Make sure that he has sufficient insurance cover for the contract.
- Ensure that his written quotation will clearly state what is and isn't included in the price and the form of agreement that will be used.
Whilst work is in progress:
- Your builder will proceed with the work according to the agreement between you, and will brief you regularly on progress.
- If there are unavoidable problems or delays you will be informed of these as early as possible.
- Your builder will supply you with samples of all materials and fittings for prior approval.
- If there are changes to the work specified or extra costs, these will be confirmed in writing, and agreed with you before work begins.
- Your builder and his employees will at all times treat you and your property with respect and ensure that the working site remains a safe and healthy environment.
When the work is complete:
- Your builder will leave the site clean and tidy and ready for use.
- Any relevant operating instructions and guarantees will be handed over to you, and you will be properly briefed about any relevant maintenance or operating issues.
- A date will be arranged for your builder to return and deal with any defects which may have arisen during the first few months.
To distinguish Ship Shape from the cowboy builders that cause so much misery amongst residential clients, we are proud to participate in the British Government endorsed TrustMark scheme, which is also recognised by local authorities and managed by the Federation Of Master Builders. This has been set up to help customers find reputable builders.
Ship Shape offers the MasterBond Warranty. This is a guarantee of our work and it covers building, improvements, extensions, repairs, maintenance and related services. It provides 10 years protection against major structural damage and protection against defective workmanship and materials.
Employing an NICEIC registered electrician is the best way to ensure safe electrical installations. NICEIC helps to protect householders from the dangers of unsafe electrical installations and NICEIC approved installers are qualified to provide advice on the dangers of electricity and suitable building regulations.
Ship Shape is also a member of the European Builders Confederation which represents the views of builders at a European level.
In addition to our residential construction accreditation, Ship Shape has met all of the quality assurance pre-requisites necessary for construction work within the public sector – demonstrated by our Constructionline accreditation.
